Fourth of July Weekend

Happy Fourth of July Weekend!

Here are some Fourth of July titles that I found worth reading:

Fourth of July Bear by Kathryn Lasky and Illustrated by Helen Cogancherry

In front of Rebecca's city house, the sidewalk is smooth as frosting- perfect for roller skating with her best friend, Emily. In Maine, where Rebecca is spending the summer, there are no sidewalks and no Emily - just trees as tall as castle tops and water too cold for swimming.

The summer house is on the tail of the island, and a little girl lives down the road. Rebecca isn't interested - Amanda couldn't be as nice as Emily - until one day Amanda asks, "Would youi like to be a bear?"

"A Bear?"

"A Fourth of July Bear!"

You will have to read the book to find out the rest of the story...

Hats Off for the Fourth of the July by Harriet Ziefert and Illustrated by Gustaf Miller

 In Chatham town
on the Fourth of July.
A grand parade
will go marching by.

Music and dream ...
music and drum.
We're all waiting
to see it come.

This is one parade you don't want to miss! Who will come next? Cowboys on horseback? The baseball team? Or what about everyone's favorite attraction, Miss Eelgrass with the green hair? But best of all, when the parade's over and the streets to start to clear, another spectacle is waiting up in the sky.

Firecrackers crackle and pop. Flags are waving.  Bands march down the street. Yummy food sizzles on the grill. And fireworks light up the sky. It's Independence Day!

Independence Day is also called the Fourth of July. It's like a big birthday party. Who's having a birthday that day? The United States.

It's the Fourth of July, and Maggie can't wait for the family picnic. Fourth of July means lemonade, homemade pickles, and Ganny's special chocolate cake.

It's Arthur and Little Jake wading in the pool, and Uncle Charlie chilling cans and cans of soda i a big washtub. It's Frisbees and squirt guns, jump ropes and Hula Hoops. It's the Fourth of July, and Maggie and her whole family intend to celebrate!
