Knut: How One Little Polar Bear Captivated the World by Juliana, Isabella, and Craig Hatkoff and Dr. Gerald R. Uhlich

Knut: How One Little Polar Bear Captivated the World

by Juliana, Isabella, and Craig Hatkoff and Dr. Gerald R. Uhlich

When Knut was born, the first polar bear cub at the Berlin Zoo in more than thirty years, he was no bigger than a snowball and unable to care for himself. His mother, a rescued East German circus bear, didn't know how to take care of Knut and rejected him. Knut would have died if it weren't for Thomas Dorflein, a zookeeper who nurtured Knut, feeding him, sleeping with him, and giving him the love and attention Knut needed to thrive. But Thomas wasn't the only one who adopted Knut. The adorable little polar bear captured the world's attention, and now Knut is loved around the globe.

This is a wonderful story about how one zoo keeper fell in love with a small polar bear cub and through his actions and love was determined that the little cub would survive against incredible odds.

This well written and illustrated book is a sheer pleasure to read. The pictures are incredibly beautiful.

This is the type of story that gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling inside.

I absolutely loved this book and recommend it to for all public, home, and school libraries. It is a must read for anyone who loves animals and loves the planet.

With his cute waddle and playful spirit, it was hard not to love Knut. He received as many as two hundred letters each week. People of all ages sent poems and other words of friendship. Children who were too young to write drew pictures for Knut. Everyone wanted Knut to know how happy he made them feel."

Check this out! You won't be disappointed!

Happy Reading!!!!!!!!!!!!

The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs

The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs
as old to Jon Scieszka and Illustrated by Lane Smit

You may think you know the story of the Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf - but only one person knows the real story. That person is A. Wolf. His tale starts with a birthday cake for his dear old granny, a bad head cold ... and a bad reputation. It ends in the Big House: the Pig Pen.

This hilariously funny take on the Three Little Pigs story will have you laughing your head off!

I couldn't put this creatively written book down.

I knew we were going to be in for a treat when I read these words: "I'm the wolf. Alexander T. Wolf. You can call me Al. I don't know how this whole Big Bad Wolf thing got started, but it's all wrong."

Children and adults of all ages will enjoy this book.

This books makes for a great story time! It should be in every public, home and school library. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and sharing it with others!

Happy reading....

Have You Read Any of These Laura Numeroff Books

Let's See How Many Laura Numeroff books you have read ...

Yesterday I was the Children's Librarian in the Children's room at the Carnegie Library in Oakland. I had the most delightful time.

There was a mother who came into the library requesting books by Laura Numeroff. I found several for her that I am listing below.

Let us know if you have read any of these books and if there are others that we should include in the list.

*****************************

If You Give a Moose A Muffin - By Laura Numeroff and Illustrated by Felicia Bond

If a big hungry moose comes to visit, you might give him a muffin to make him feel at home. If you give him a muffin, he'll want some jam to go with it. When he's eaten all your muffins, he'll want to go to the store to get some more muffin mix.

What Aunts Do Best/What Uncles Do Best (flip side book)- by Laura Numeroff and Illustrated by Lynn Munsinger

Aunts can do lots of things, like take you on rides at the amusement park, tell silly jokes, and help you pick out new shoes at the mall. There are so many things that aunts do, but what do they do best?

Uncles can do lots of things, like win prizes for you at the amusement park, play the piano with you, and help you draw. There are so many things that uncles can do, but what do they do best?

If You Give a Dog a Donut - By Laura Numeroff and Illustrated by Felicia Bond

If you give a dog a donut, he’ll ask for some apple juice to go with it.
When you give him the juice, he’ll drink it all up.
Then, before you can say “Woof” . . . Dog is off on a backyard adventure!

What Mommies Do Best / What Daddies Do Best - Illustrated by Lynn Munsinger (Flip this book for two books in one)

Mommies can do lots of things, like teach you how to ride a bike, sew a loose button on your teddy bear, and read you a cozy bedtime story. But what do they do best?

Daddies can do lots of things, like bake a birthday cake, play with you in the park, and take you trick-or-treating. But what do they do best? Read the lovely story and find out.

When Sheep Sleep by Laura Numeroff and Illustrated by McPhail

When you can't fall asleep,
they try counting sheep!

But what do you do if the sheep are asleep?

Count deer in the forest
Instead of the sheet.
Together all nuzzled,
They don't make a peep!

Count cows in the meadow
Instead of the sheep.
But under the moonlight,
They've fallen asleep!

What happens when a small child who can't fall asleep counts sheep and other animals and finds that they are all asleep... You will have to read this beautifully illustrated tale that is so warm and fuzzy that you won't be able to put it down. This is great for any story time... This will be a great addition to any home, school, public, library!

I DIDN'T DO MY HOMEWORK BECAUSE .... by David Cali and Benjamin Chaud

I DIDN'T DO MY HOMEWORK BECAUSE ....
by David Cali and Benjamin Chaud

How often have we come up with excuses for not having our homework? This book takes excuses to the next level...

In this well written story, you will learn how one little boy told his teacher lots of excuses for not having his homework.

Oh, to be that creative!!!!!!!!!!!!

************************************

"So, why didn't you do your homework?"

"I didn't do my homework because ..."

"An airplane full of monkeys landed in our yard."

"A rebellious robot destroyed our house.

"Elvis hid all of my pencils."

"I was abducted by a UFO."

"Just when I started to do my homework, we were attacked by Vikings."

"Giant lizards invaded my neighborhood."

"Some cough medicine that my doctor prescribed had a strange effect on me."

************************************

The excuses go on an on until...

Read the story to discover how this tale ends.

************************************

I enjoyed reading this book. I laughed at his excuses for not having his homework and wondered why I hadn't been that clever when I was his age...

The colors, content, text, and pictures were light, happy and fun.

I would recommend this book for school age children who have ever been tasked with completing and handing in homework. However, I must caution all teachers to be on the look out for any of the excuses used in this book...

This would be a great addition to any home, school, or public library.

It was most definitely a fun read!

 Until the next time...

Here Comes Destructosaurus! by Aaron Reynolds and Illustrated by Jeremy Tankard

Here Comes Destructosaurus!
by Aaron Reynolds and Illustrated by Jeremy Tankard

I saw this book listed on the New York Times Bestseller list a couple of weeks ago wanted to read it. I was not disappointed.

GET READY FOR THE BIGGEST DISASTER THE WORLD HAS EVER KNOWN!

WATCH the unstoppable destructive force of a raging temper tantrum!

TREMBLE at the enormous mess and disrespectful roaring!

DESPAIR as no amount of scolding can stem the heedless rampage!

SOMEONE is heading for a time-out mister!

*********************

With an eye catching description like this, you have to read the book!

This book reminds me of a Godzilla book for kids. The colors are bright and engaging! The oversize text is perfect for Destructosaurus!

He's like any other child who has a temper tantrum... Except for he is quite huge!

I enjoyed how the text was big and bold!

As Destructosaurus becomes angry, the colors take on a distinct red-tone... as he becomes angrier and angrier, the colors are a raging reddish-orange... representing the boiling point.

When his mother says "DON'T YOU TAKE THAT TONE WITH ME, DESTRUCTOSAURUS," you hear every mother chastising her child for bad behavior...

Later in the story, we learn the reason why he was so angry and causing so much destruction...

Destructosaurus was looking for his................... {You will have to read this wonderfully written and illustrated story to learn what he was searching for....}

I highly recommend this delightfully well written creative book! I absolultey loved this book. It brought a smile to my face.

This will be a great addition to any home, school, and public library. This book should be every where there are little ones with temper tantrums!

Until the next time........

Fourth of July Weekend

Happy Fourth of July Weekend!

Here are some Fourth of July titles that I found worth reading:

Fourth of July Bear by Kathryn Lasky and Illustrated by Helen Cogancherry

In front of Rebecca's city house, the sidewalk is smooth as frosting- perfect for roller skating with her best friend, Emily. In Maine, where Rebecca is spending the summer, there are no sidewalks and no Emily - just trees as tall as castle tops and water too cold for swimming.

The summer house is on the tail of the island, and a little girl lives down the road. Rebecca isn't interested - Amanda couldn't be as nice as Emily - until one day Amanda asks, "Would youi like to be a bear?"

"A Bear?"

"A Fourth of July Bear!"

You will have to read the book to find out the rest of the story...

Hats Off for the Fourth of the July by Harriet Ziefert and Illustrated by Gustaf Miller

 In Chatham town

We're all waiting

This is one parade you don't want to miss! Who will come next? Cowboys on horseback? The baseball team? Or what about everyone's favorite attraction, Miss Eelgrass with the green hair? But best of all, when the parade's over and the streets to start to clear, another spectacle is waiting up in the sky.
