New York Times Graphic Books - Week of April 24, 2010

Welcome to the New York Times Graphic Books
for the week of April 24, 2010




There are a few new graphic novels for this week. They are:

BATMAN AND ROBIN, VOL. 1, by Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely and Philip Tan. (DC Comics, $24.99.) After Batman’s demise, Dick Grayson, the first Robin, takes on the mantle of the Bat. His costumed partner is Damien, the son of Bruce Wayne. Causing them grief? Jason Todd, the second Robin.

SCOTT PILGRIM: GETS IT TOGETHER, by Bryan Lee O'Malley. (Oni Press, $11.95.) In this fourth volume of the series, Scott gets a job (Best. Dishwasher. Ever) and battles Roxie the ninja, another of Ramona’s evil exes.

DOGS, VOL. 3, by Shirow Miwa. (VIZ Media, $12.99.) In this dark future, the required elements for survival are sword, gun, courage and luck.
INUYASHA, VOL. 47, by Rumiko Takahashi. (Viz Media, $9.99.) Kagome, a modern day girl finds herself in Japan’s ancient past. This chapter has tragic consequences.

5DARK TOWER: THE FALL OF GILEAD, by Robin Furth and Peter David. (Marvel Entertainment, $24.99.) This comic series explores the world set forth by Stephen King’s "Dark Tower" novels. Has Roland committed the worst crime of all?11
6BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE, by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland. (DC Comics, $17.99.) This critically acclaimed story from 1988 offers a possible origin for the Joker.58
7THE BOOK OF GENESIS: ILLUSTRATED, by R. Crumb. (W.W. Norton & Co., $24.95.) The legendary artist tackles the first book of the Bible.27
8WOLVERINE: OLD MAN LOGAN, by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven. (Marvel Entertainment, $34.99.) In a future world where the villains are triumphant, Wolverine has left heroics behind to care for his family. If only Hawkeye and the Hulk gang would accept that.20
9THE INVINCIBLE IRON MAN, VOL. 1, by Matt Fraction and Salvador Larroca. (Marvel Entertainment, $39.99.) Iron Man faces off against Ezekiel Stane and Norman Osborn in this deluxe collection of the on-going series.6
10HALO: HELLJUMPER, by Peter David and Eric Nguyen. (Marvel Entertainment, $24.99.) Something deadly is transpiring on the colony planet Ariel and it’s up to the elite soldiers known as "Helljumpers" to find out what.5

8V FOR VENDETTA, by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. (DC Comics, $19.99.) In a dystopian future, an anarchist sets out to topple the oppressive and totalitarian government of the United Kingdom.52
9FABLES, VOL. 13, by Bill Willingham and Matthew Sturges. (DC Comics, $17.99.) The Fables face-off against the Literals, the embodiments of romance, comedy, fantasy and one who can forever erase them from the world.10
10HELLBOY, VOL. 9, by Mike Mignola and Duncan Fegredo. (Dark Horse Comics, $19.99.) A by-the-numbers giant hunting case takes an unforeseen detour that forces Hellboy to confront the truth about his lineage.3
