When an evening celebration in his village is disrupted by the cries of slave raiders, young Kankan Musa runs to find his spear, but in a moment he is taken. Suddenly, the world he has known is gone. Is he to be a slave? Or will destiny carry this son of a proud people to a different future?

What a most delightful story about the great Malian lion king Mansa Musa. I loved this book so much that I am in the process of learning more about this great king!

This is one of the most gorgeous children's books that I have reviewed! I just couldn't stop reading. I felt transformed to that time period as I read the book and looked at the rich beautiful pictures that certainly showcased the rich grandeur that Mansa Musa brought to the world!

Caldecott Medalists have woven their magic in this must have book!

I VERY highly recommend this book to all children of all races! Everyone needs to learn about the great Mansa Musa!

This is a must have for all school, home, public, and private libraries... You won't be disappointed!!!!!!!!!!
