Ground Zero Dogs by Meish Goldish

GROUND ZERO DOGS

by

Meish Goldish

"... Shortly after the towers fell, rescuers rushed in to search for survivors. To help out, they brought along hundreds of highly trained search-and-rescue dogs. Climbing over mounds of twisted metal and sharp steel beams, these heroic dogs made up the largest canine rescue operation in U.S history."

What a heart warming story about the dogs who assisted with the rescue efforts during the 911 attack.

"The search-and-rescue dogs that looked for victims, were highly skilled. They  had been trained and tested for work at disaster sites such as earthquakes and bombings. As a result, the dogs knew how to find people buried under debris by detecting their scents. They also knew how to climb ladders, walk along beams, and crawl through dark, narrow tunnels during a search."

As I read this and the entire book, I kept thinking about how dogs are truly man's best friend.

The chapters include:

  • A Deadly Attack
  • Racing Against Time
  • Dogs to the Rescue
  • Searching for Survivors
  • A Special Nose
  • On the Move
  • Following Orders
  • Danger on the Job
  • Handle with Care
  • Facing Sadness
  • Easing the Pain
  • Remembering Heroes
  • Just the Facts
  • Common Breeds: Ground Zero Dogs
  • Glossary
  • Bibliography
  • Learning More Online
  • Index
  • About the Author

I found this heart warming book very easy to read and follow. The text was short and too the point. The photos told the story even with out the text. This book would make a great addition to personal. school, and public libraries. This would be a great story time each September 11th!!!!!!!!

I really enjoyed this book.

I was saddened when the event occurred! What a tremendous loss of life. I will never forget this event as long as I live.

This book is a wonderful tribute to all dogs who served in the rescue efforts after the 9/11 attacks. I love how this book includes a "Just the Facts" section; the common dog breeds that were used in in the search and rescue that included Border collies, Golden retrievers, German shepherds, and Labrador retrievers.

KUDOS to all the animals that served in the search and rescue and as therapy dogs!

For those who might be unfamiliar with some of the terms in the book, there is a "Glossary" near the end. If people want to read some of the books that were cited in this book, they can read the "Bibliography." And if anyone wants to read more about "Disaster Search Dogs," "Search and Rescue Dogs," and "Dog Heroes;" they can visit the "Read More" section. If you want to visit Web sites and learn more about search and rescue dogs online, you can visit the "Learn More Online" section.

Reading this book really made my day! I absolutely LOVED it.

Even though the book is only 32 pages including the Index, it packs a plethora of information!!!!!!!!

Every time that I read this story, I hug my Figaro (Collie/Chow/Golden mix) that much closer and am so grateful to have him in my life.

Happy Reading!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Until the next time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Little Dinos Don't Bite - Written by Michael Dahl and Illustrated by Adam Record

Little Dinos
DON'T BITE

Written by Michael Dahl and
Illustrated by Adam Record

As part of the Little Dinos "hello genius"series. Little Dinos Don't Bite was quite a fun read. I giggle every time that I see and read the book. How adorable!

"Your teeth are BIG and SHARP, Little Dino!
But be careful what you bite!"

This sets that stage for the entire book. This book is cute. Dino is adorable and cuddly, but there is a message about "not biting."

We begin with Dino... "Don't BITE"

When ever my nieces and nephews come to my house, I immediately take this book out and read it to them. They are excited every time!

Capstone Publishers keep up the great work!

This is a great addition to any story time!

I would recommend this book for public, school, and home libraries!

It is a great addition to every collection for small children!

Until the next time!
